A third generation Californian, Bell was born and raised in Los Angeles where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from U.C.L.A. In the 1980's she studied with the prominent realist painter, William Martin, from whom she learned the classical techniques that are so well displayed in her Victorian style animal paintings. Although she enjoys landscape painting, Bell's primary artistic focus is in portraiture. Her many portrait commissions have taken her across the globe to practice her particular art appreciation of the 19th century French academies, coupled with California-style "plein air" techniques. California museum exhibitions include: the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, the Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art at Pepperdine University, the Pasadena Museum of California Art and the Pasadena Museum of History. Lisa Bloomingdale Bell is a member of the American Society of Portrait Artists, Oil Painters of America, and the California Art Club.
