Julio Pro has been involved in the arts since childhood. Besides his interest in the fine arts, he has earned a degree in music and an M.D. degree specializing in anesthesiology. In the early 1980's he became serious about the fine arts and enrolled in night school at the California Art Institute in Los Angeles. This was a small school dedicated to training illustrators. They stressed the basics, including strict discipline in the drawing skills. Besides this intensive training, he also attended many workshops taught by Robert Abbett, Gary Carter, and Ted Goerschner. He has spent most of his career studying with the late Neil Boyle.
Julio Pro's subject matter deals with wildlife, Native Americans and the American Cowboy. His works are in the permanent collections of: the Leigh-Yawkey-Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin; Will Rogers Museum, Claremore, Oklahoma; United States Air Force Collection, The Pentagon, Washington, D.C. Museum exhibitions include: Museum of Wildlife Art (Jackson Hole, Wyoming), C.M. Russell Museum (Great Falls, Montana), Leigh-Yawkey-Woodson Art Museum (Wausau, Wisconsin); West Valley Art Museum (Phoenix, Arizona). California Museum Exhibitions include: Pasadena Museum of California Art; Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art at Pepperdine University; Los Angeles Museum of Science & Industry.
Julio Pro is a member of Oil Painters of America, California Art Club, Society of Animal Artists, and the Los Angeles Society of Illustrators.
