Jian Wu graduated from Art College of Qing Hua University (former Central Art and Crafts College of China) in 1984. He then became the Art Director of the Art Institute of Beijing, China. In 1987 he relocated to the United States to study western art and received a Master of Fine Art degree in 2000 from the Academy of Art University of San Francisco while teaching at the University as a member of the faculty and where he currently teaches in the School of Illustration. In 2008 he was awarded "Best of Show" at the Best of America Eighteenth Annual Fine Art Competition and Exhibition of the National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society. He also earned awards from the Society in 2007 and 2005. Other recent awards include those from the Pastel Journal and the Salon International in San Antonio, Texas. Jian Wu is a Signature Member of the National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society, and Artist Member of Oil Painters of America, Pastel Society of America, and the National Academy of Plein Air Painters.
